DuelEdge

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to what people ask most. The Terms of Use cover the same ground in more detail.

Is DuelEdge a betting product?

No. DuelEdge is not a betting product and is not a gambling service. To be unambiguous about each part of that:

  • DuelEdge does not accept, place, broker or transmit wagers of any kind.
  • DuelEdge charges no entry fee and operates no contest, pool or league of its own.
  • DuelEdge holds no stakes and handles no money other than the price of a subscription to the software.
  • DuelEdge awards no prize, payout or thing of value based on the outcome of any game or contest.
  • DuelEdge does not tell you to place a bet, does not publish picks or betting selections, and does not claim that using it will produce a profit.

Then why does DuelEdge read sportsbook odds?

Because a published line is the market's best available estimate of what a player is likely to do in a given game, and that estimate is the input a projection needs. DuelEdge converts those lines into projected fantasy points under your league's scoring rules.

That is the entire role odds play here. A line appearing in DuelEdge is not a suggestion that you bet on it, and DuelEdge is not affiliated with any sportsbook.

What does DuelEdge actually do?

It ranks every NHL player by the fantasy points he is projected to score on a given day, in your league rather than a generic one, by scoring published sportsbook lines against your own league's category weights.

The lines it reads are the ones books publish for goals, assists, shots, blocked shots, power-play points and goalie saves.

What does DuelEdge need from my Yahoo Fantasy account?

When you connect your Yahoo Fantasy account, DuelEdge reads your league's scoring settings, your roster, and which players are available in your league. It uses that to produce your rankings and for nothing else.

Without your league's own settings there is no way to tell you what a player is worth to you, as opposed to what he is worth on average.

Does DuelEdge make moves in my team?

No. DuelEdge reads. You act.

It does not post, trade, add, drop or change anything. Every add, drop and lineup change happens in Yahoo Fantasy, made by you.

How accurate are the projections?

A projection is an estimate of what might happen, produced by a model from public data. It is not a prediction, not a guarantee, and not advice.

What the model saw when it ran can change before the puck drops: a player gets hurt, a goalie is pulled, the lines change an hour beforehand. DuelEdge tells you what its model projects, and every decision after that is yours.

Does DuelEdge host my league?

No. DuelEdge runs no leagues, no pools and no contests of its own, and keeps no standings. Your league stays where it is, and so does your team.

Who can use DuelEdge during its first season?

You need to be of the age of majority where you live, and you need a Yahoo Fantasy account, because DuelEdge works from your own league's settings.

For its first season DuelEdge is available by invitation only, and invitations are being issued in Québec.

What does joining the invitation list mean?

It means we will email you an invitation when DuelEdge opens. Being on the list does not guarantee one, and joining costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

We send a confirmation link first, and your address is added to the list only when you click it. Until you do, it is not stored anywhere. You can withdraw at any time using the link in any email we send you.
